My Mumbai Predictions were all wrong

By Sudhir | May 16, 2009

Living in US and trying to get a pulse of people in Mumbai is tough… :) I based things on what I read online and saw on few tv channels. I was soooooo wrong…

Ofcourse I underestimated Raj Thakre. MNS did really well and that caused BJP/SS big time. :)

NCP and Congress took all the seats from Mumbai, I had thought the other way round. I had estimated 2 seats for them max…. But that is why elections are so much fun….

Exit polls off the mark again – India – The Times of India

By Sudhir | May 16, 2009

As I had predicted. :) Exit polls don’t work in India. Not sure why, maybe because the country is too diverse. You cannot take sample from few regions and extrapolate. It just does not work…

The exit polls have gone wrong yet again. While all the surveys had predicted an edge for the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), they

also said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would be a close second. But as results came in on Saturday, the gap between the two was expected to be a whopping 100 seats.
The exit polls gave the UPA 185 to 205 seats and the NDA 142 to 198 while predicting as many as 110 to 130 seats for the Third Front, which, as trends reveal, may not cross even half of that.

CNN-IBN exit poll too gives UPA a clear lead

By Sudhir | May 16, 2009

Again I think this is bull shit. They have never got it right. Lets see what happens this time…

The CNN-IBN exit poll, conducted by the Centre for Study of Developing Societies, projects that the UPA will get a clear lead as against its main rival NDA, with the Third Front standing at a distant third position in the Lok Sabha election. The exit poll also projects the Fourth Front getting 25-35 seats, with 15-20 seats going to others. The results of the election will be announced on Saturday.

According to the exit poll, the UPA is projected to win between 210 and 225 seats as against the NDA which is projected to win between 180 and 195 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha. The results of the exit poll suggest that the Third Front will get between 95 and 110 seats.

The exit poll also suggests that the ruling Congress, projected to win between 158 and 173 seats, will have a clear lead against its rival BJP, which is projected to win between 132 and 147 seats

5 Indian states will decide new governments

By Sudhir | December 8, 2008

India has been conducting state level elections over past few weeks. India is a huge country and elections take time. It is not like US where everything happens in 1 day. 5 states which have already voted and votes will be counted today are as follows.

I will be primarily following Delhi, Rajasthan, MP, Chhattisgarh. Other 2 are less important for me personally. I think J&K elections are good and I hope that state progresses.

Delhi
Delhi is governed by Congress. BJP use to be very powerful in the state in past. It will be interesting to see if BJP can win the state back.

.

Rajasthan
BJP has a government in this state and Vasundhara Raje is the Chief Minister. She comes from Royal family and was very popular in the state. Lets see if she can keep her government.

Madhya Pradesh
MP is governed by BJP with Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief Minister. MP use to be stronghold of Congress in past. Will be interesting to see if Congress can win the state. Shivraj Singh has a very clean image in the state.

Chhattisgarh

BJP again governs this state.

Jammu and Kashmir
J&K is the troubled state but there have been elections in the state for years now. Congress and National Conference should be the key players in the state.

Mizoram
Small north east state and is governed by Mizo National Front. Lets see how things go in this state.
